Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi is making waves off the pitch with the release of his latest music single, “Hop Out.” The 28-year-old, who wears the number 17 for Fulham, dropped the track under his music alias, “17,” collaborating with British chart-topper Ramz.
Iwobi’s fellow Nigerian rapper, ODUMODUBLVCK, joins the duo, creating an unexpected but exciting collaboration that blends their musical talents. The trio hopes the song will climb the charts following its release on Thursday.
The music video for “Hop Out” features Iwobi, Ramz, and ODUMODUBLVCK rapping alongside luxury cars in a lavish setting. The scene transitions to a posh afternoon tea with cakes served by a waiter in white gloves, culminating in a game of poker. According to the creators, the video combines traditional British elements with Afro-Caribbean culture and energy.
This release comes at an exciting time for Iwobi, as Fulham sits in ninth place in the Premier League, surpassing expectations. However, the team’s hopes for European football could be dashed if they lose Sunday’s London derby against Chelsea, who are battling for a top-four finish.
Iwobi has already made a mark in the music world. Last summer, he became the first Premier League player to release an EP. His single “Don’t Shoot,” featuring Don-EE (ex-England youth player Medy Elito) and Skoli (Ajax striker Chuba Akpom), was a call to young people to avoid street violence. Iwobi reflected on his own experiences growing up in London, where he witnessed the struggles of street life.
He shared, “You see the weapon stuff and in London—where I grew up—you’re about to see something. Everyone wants to be a footballer or an artist, or people want to make fast money, which isn’t always the best thing. You see things you wouldn’t want to see at a young age, and it’s about staying on the right path.”
Now, with “Hop Out,” Iwobi is hoping to make a bigger impact in the rap scene. The video, directed by London cinematographer Francis Boyter, showcases the creativity of the collaboration, with poet and storyteller Emmanuel Speaks guiding the lyrics.
With his music career gaining momentum, Iwobi continues to prove he’s more than just a football star.
