Nettwerk Signs Popular Indie-Pop Band from New Zealand

by Patria

Nettwerk Music Group has added another talented act to its growing roster. On Tuesday, the independent record label announced it had signed New Zealand indie-pop band Yumi Zouma.

To mark the signing, the four-piece group released their first single in nearly 18 months, titled “Bashville on the Sugar.” You can listen to the track below.

“This song is the first from our upcoming project that we really connected with,” Yumi Zouma said. “It’s an homage to the subway and public transport, especially New York’s. We have a strong appreciation for it—its reliability and the access it offers are things we didn’t experience in New Zealand. But there’s also its unpredictability—what you’ll see and who you’ll meet—making each ride a unique experience.”

The song, written across Mexico City, New York, and their homeland of Aotearoa, captures the essence of travel. The track features real field recordings from the NYC subway, blending with Olivia Campion’s energetic drumming and the dynamic guitar work of Charlie Ryder and Josh Burgess.

Yumi Zouma now joins a prestigious lineup at Nettwerk, which includes artists such as Angus & Julia Stone, James Vincent McMorrow, Georgia Mooney, Hollow Coves, Jaguar Jonze, and Japanese Wallpaper.
