Fans Spot Unmistakable Resemblance Between New Ghost Song and Classic Rock Hit

by Patria

Ghost’s latest release, “Peacefield,” the third single from their upcoming album Skeleta, has sparked a wave of fan reactions. The song, which drops on Friday, has raised some eyebrows for its striking resemblance to Journey’s classic “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” Fans quickly took to social media, with one user, @11johnn on X (formerly Twitter), pointing out the notable similarities between the two tracks, particularly in their choruses.

The comparison between “Peacefield” and “Separate Ways” is hard to ignore, as both songs feature similar structural elements. @11johnn shared side-by-side excerpts of the two songs, which fueled the conversation among fans.

Ghost’s Continued Influence from ’80s Rock and Metal

Ghost has long been influenced by ’80s hard rock and metal, and “Peacefield” is no exception. In the comments section of @11johnn’s post, several fans highlighted other Ghost songs that also draw inspiration from iconic ’80s tracks. One fan pointed out that “Respite on the Spitalfields” has clear nods to Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night,” specifically referencing similar parts of each song. “He’s always had his hand on the pulse of the ’80s hair/pop rock scene,” said the fan, referring to the band’s frontman, Papa Nihil.

Another fan weighed in, noting the similarities between “Peacefield” and Journey’s hit, while also drawing a parallel between Ghost’s “Lachryma” and Alice Cooper’s “Poison.”

Fans React Positively to Influences

Despite the noticeable similarities, most fans appear to embrace the comparisons rather than criticize them. The post, found in the “Ghost Band Community” on X, received an overwhelmingly positive response, with fans celebrating the band’s homage to their musical influences.

While “Peacefield” shares elements with “Separate Ways,” it still maintains enough melodic and chordal differences to avoid accusations of plagiarism. As many have pointed out, it seems Ghost is simply wearing their ’80s inspirations proudly, a trademark of their style. Fans can expect to hear more nods to classic rock and metal when Skeleta is released this Friday.
