PinkPantheress, originally from Bath, England, and raised in Kent, made her debut “Stateside” with the release of her new single on Friday, April 25.
The track, “Stateside,” follows her earlier release, “Tonight,” which dropped three weeks ago. “Tonight” is the lead single from her upcoming mixtape Fancy That, scheduled for release on May 9 via Parlophone and Warner Records. The energetic club anthem samples Panic! At the Disco’s 2008 song “Do You Know What I’m Seeing?” and has already achieved significant success, reaching No. 5 on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart and No. 25 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. PinkPantheress shared a lighthearted moment backstage at H&M’s inaugural music festival in Los Angeles this month, joking that Doechii “chewed” her up while she performed the “Tonight” dance.
Fancy That will feature seven additional tracks. In a Reddit thread last week, PinkPantheress expressed that “Stateside” and “Illegal” were the songs she most enjoyed creating. Reflecting on her creative process, she explained in her March Mixmag cover story, “I really wanted to make music that felt like a statement. That’s what appealed to me, and it’s something I wanted to bring to the project.” She added that listening to Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada during the creation of Fancy That influenced the “big sound” of the music.
Fancy That marks PinkPantheress’ first project in two years since her debut studio album, Heaven Knows, which peaked at No. 61 on the Billboard 200. Before that, she released her debut mixtape To Hell With It in 2021, which reached No. 73 on the Billboard 200.
