The Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon (CIMCL) highlights a different type of chamber music ensemble each year. Past editions have featured piano trios, violin-piano duos, cello-piano duos, woodwind quintets, and string quartets. The 20th edition, held this year, focused on the voice-piano duo.
All rounds of the competition were streamed live on The Violin Channel.
First prize, along with €8,000, was awarded to Berlin’s Duo Vert. The duo includes bass-baritone Jeeyoung Lim and pianist Cole Knutson.
The second prize of €6,000 went to London’s Duo Nuvoletta, featuring soprano Clara Barbier Serrano and pianist Joanna Kacperek. This duo also won the Audience Award and the Belle Saison Prize.
Paris-Tokyo’s Duo Musubi, made up of soprano Yui Nanasawa and pianist Kishin Nagai, claimed third prize with €4,000. They also received the €1,000 Prize for Best Performance of Jean-Patrick Besingrand’s Chants du Déversoir.
The €1,000 SEAM Prize for Commitment to Contemporary Music was awarded to Duo Autekia, featuring tenor Abel Zamora and pianist Félix Moussiegt. Meanwhile, the Villecroze Academy Prize was awarded to Duo Dalles-Birnbaum, comprising soprano Clarisse Dalles and pianist Joseph Birnbaum.
The Villecroze Academy and Belle Saison Prizes, valued at €20,000, include performance opportunities at live events, a Belle Saison tour, entry into the Villecroze Music Academy, and concert engagements with institutions such as the Royaumont Foundation and Palazzetto Bru Zane.
This year’s jury included Bernarda Fink, Véronique Gens, Markus Hadulla, Mark Padmore, Susan Manoff, and Dietrich Henschel.
