A new limited series podcast called Class of ’88 will be hosted by Will Smith.
On Thursday, the 54-year-old announced he will host Class of ’88, a new podcast series celebrating 1988 hip-hop and featuring iconic artists like Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Rakim, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and more.
“Hip-hop has been a central part of my life for over four decades,” said Will. “I’m excited to share my first-hand experiences and those of some of hip-hop’s greatest legends as we delve into the origins of one of the most influential musical genres in history.”
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star will take a deep dive into hip-hop music as it emerged in 1988. 1988 was a pivotal year for the genre.
The former rapper, who was a member of the famed hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, will share his own perspective on the industry at the time. The duo, which released five studio albums, began making music together in 1985. Will then launched his solo career in 1997 with Men in Black, the theme song from the movie of the same name. The song topped the charts in several regions around the world.
Interviews, untold stories, archival footage and personal recollections from the actor/musician himself will be featured in the episodes.
The eight-episode podcast series will be a production of Wondery, Audible, Westbrook and Awfully Nice.
Class of ’88 will be released on Amazon Music and Audible on October 26th.
