Ariana Grande starts new album with Max Martin

Ariana Grande has reportedly begun work on a new album.

The Thank U, Next singer is in the studio with producer Max Martin to work on her follow-up to 2020’s Positions.

The pop star has been concentrating on filming the two-part ‘Wicked’ movie in London, but in the midst of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which halted filming, she has managed to find some time for music.

A source told the New York Post’s Page Six column: “Her priority for the last two years has been Glinda [her character in ‘Wicked’], and it still is because they haven’t finished the movie.”

When the new music will be released, she still has no idea.

The source said: “She doesn’t know when she wants to release it because she wants to respect the timeline for ‘Wicked’ and originally didn’t want to do any music at all until after the movie was released.”

However, the insider added, “She works fast and instinctively jumps in when she feels ready… so who knows?”

Over the weekend, Ariana was asked if she had a title for her next studio outing, to which she replied: “Let me make it first!”

Earlier this year, the 30-year-old singer responded after a batch of unheard material leaked online, admitting it’s “impossible to keep things from her passionate fanbase”.

“It’s impossible to keep things from you. You have to take some swings and misses.”

Back in February, Ariana returned to music with The Weeknd’s “Die For You” remix, teaming up with her friend and collaborator on a new version of the 2016 track from his album Starboy.

The ‘Dangerous Woman’ singer previously reassured fans that she is still very much a singer, reminding them of her vocal prowess on a rendition of ‘Over the Rainbow’ from the 1939 classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

In response to a question from a TikTok user as to why she was no longer a singer, she had this to say: “Literally on set filming two musical movies all day every day”.
