The Israel-Hamas war has been officially denounced by Selena Gomez’s makeup brand Rare Beauty.
Rare Beauty released a statement via their official Instagram account on Monday. The statement spoke out against the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
“We are devastated by the images and reports coming out of the Middle East,” the statement began. “Thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli airstrikes & millions of civilians have been displaced & left without access to food, water, medicine or basic necessities for survival. A large number of these casualties are children.”
After declaring that “Palestinian civilians must be protected, period,” the statement also acknowledged the Israeli victims of a Hamas attack last month.
“We remain heartbroken by the horrific terrorist attack against innocent civilians in Israel on October 7, many of whom were children. There is no situation in which attacks on civilians are acceptable,” it said. “We strongly condemn all forms of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.”
On Saturday, October 7, the militant group Hamas attacked Israel. At 6:30 a.m. local time, the group launched a rocket attack, followed by a ground invasion that targeted an electronic music festival as well as civilian streets and homes.
Israel has since retaliated by killing some 10,000 Palestinians, including some 4,000 children. An international aid agency recently warned The Guardian that more than half a million people in northern Gaza are at risk of starvation as food supplies run “perilously low”.
