A metal remix of ‘Cobra’ featuring Spiritbox has been released by Megan Thee Stallion.
For the heavier version of her latest single, the ‘WAP’ hitmaker enlisted the Canadian heavy metallers.
Band leader Courtney LaPlante provides backing vocals. She also sings clean vocals on the track: “Leave me alone in the dark/I’m shedding my skin/I need to harden my heart/To protect myself but the pain stays inside.”
Cobra” was Megan’s first self-financed track. It was also the first song to be released on Megan’s own Hot Girl Productions.
After being shot in the foot by fellow rapper Tory Lanez and taking legal action against 1501 Certified Entertainment for allegedly trying to “interfere” with her control over her music and locking her into a contract, the rapper’s new song reflects her “courage and independence”, much like the snake it shares its title with.
Writing on Instagram, Megan said: “Cobras exemplify courage and independence.
“They stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges, teaching one to tap into their inner strength and rely on themselves to overcome their threats. Emulating the cobra helps one to be more confident in the person they are inside.”
On “Cobra,” she raps about being “depressed” and hitting “rock bottom.
But the lyrics also hint at someone finding their strength and self-worth again.
Megan says in the music video’s intro: “Just like a snake sheds its skin, we have to keep shedding our past.”
The 28-year-old star is releasing her next album independently, as she no longer has a record deal – her previous LPs, 2020’s Good News and Traumazine, were released on 300 Entertainment and 1501 Certified.
Megan recently teased that her next album will be the start of a new chapter in her career.
