SZA was the big winner at the 2023 Soul Train Awards.
The 34-year-old star took home the award for Female R&B/Soul Artist, Album of the Year for ‘SOS’ and Song of the Year and the Ashford and Simpson Writing Award for her mega-hit ‘Snooze’.
For album of the year, she beat out Janelle Monáe’s The Age of Pleasure, Ari Lennox’s Age/Sex/Location, Summer Walker’s Clear 2: Soft Life EP, Babyface’s Girls Night Out (Extended), Burna Boy’s I Told Them…, Victoria Monét’s Jaguar II and Coco Jones’ What I Didn’t Tell You (Deluxe).
Usher, 45, won for male R&B/soul vocalist of the year for “Good” with Summer Walker, 27, and 21 Savage, 31.
SZA’s Soul Train haul comes after she was “very shaken” and “overwhelmed” by her nine Grammy nominations.
The ‘Nobody Gets Me’ hitmaker leads the nominations for the upcoming 2024 ceremony, but she didn’t respond until an X user called her out for not commenting on the news, insisting it was because she was still taking it all in and was filled with “anxiousness” as she tried to think of a way to express her gratitude.
She replied: “Because I’m overwhelmed by it and it gives me alot of anxiety to think of words … but I’m very grateful and very shaken and I wish my grandma was here to come back to me. (sic)”
She is up for album of the year, record of the year, and song of the year.
SZA released her critically acclaimed album “SOS” in December 2022, and it features the hit single “Kill Bill,” which is among the nominees for Record of the Year.
She has already won one Grammy, in 2022, for ‘Kiss Me More’ with Doja Cat.
The chart-topper has previously insisted that awards are not her motivation.
The ‘Good Days’ singer – real name Solana Rowe – said: “I try not to care too much because I have had some really deep disappointments when I would just be so invested. But I can’t invest because none of it is real.
