The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard have today announced the names of three acts who have been shortlisted for the prestigious BBC Radio 1 sponsored 2024 BRITs Rising Star Award: Caity Baser, The Last Dinner Party and Sekou.
Since its inception in 2008, the Rising Star award (originally known as Critics’ Choice) has been a successful predictor of music’s future stars through an impressive roster of nominees and winners; Previous BRITs Rising Star Award winners include Adele, Sam Smith, Sam Fender, Ellie Goulding, Florence + The Machine, Griff and 2023 winners FLO (the first group to win the award) and artists previously nominated for the award include Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, Lewis Capaldi, Cat Burns, Michael Kiwanuka, Mabel, Years & Years. Global track streams for all previous winners have surpassed 60 billion.
The shortlist for the BRITs Rising Star Award is selected by an invited panel of music editors and critics from the national press, online music editors, heads of music at major radio and music TV stations, as well as songwriters, producers and live bookers – those who work with emerging talent on a regular basis. The award is open to UK artists who, as of October 31, 2023, have not yet achieved a top 20 position in the official album charts or more than one top 20 position in the official singles charts.
The winner of the 2024 Rising Star Award will be announced on Thursday, December 7.
