Blackpink have signed a new deal with YG Entertainment.
A statement from the company on Wednesday (23Dec12) confirmed that the ‘Pink Venom’ hitmakers will remain with the agency, amid much speculation about the K-pop girl group’s future with the label.
YG said: “The board of directors has made a decision to renew the contracts of the four members of Blackpink.”
Company founder Yang Hyun Suk added: “We are happy to continue our relationship with Blackpink.
“Blackpink will continue to do their best to shine even brighter in the global music market as an artist that represents not only our company, but also K-pop. […] And we send our unwavering support and faith to [fans].”
With their contract up for renewal after seven years, fans of the four-piece – Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie and Rosé – had been worried by reports that they could go elsewhere.
However, according to Variety, each member’s stand-alone contract is “still said to be negotiated”.
As the most successful Korean girl group internationally, Blackpink were recently honored by King Charles during a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.
They were among around 170 guests invited to the glittering London event hosted by the King and Queen Camilla in honor of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee’s state visit to the UK.
During a speech, the monarch gave a shout-out to the band for their work in helping to protect the environment.
Charles told the guests: “It is particularly inspiring to see the younger generation of Koreans taking up the cause. I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose, better known collectively as Blackpink, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience as ambassadors for the UK Presidency of COP 26 and later as advocates for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues and be global superstars at the same time.”
