In a recent interview on the “That Rocks! YouTube series,” Sammy Hagar unequivocally stated that a Van Halen reunion is not in the cards. The discussion revolved around the idea of the surviving members of the iconic rock band coming together for a tribute show in honor of the late guitarist, Eddie Van Halen.

During the interview with Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson, Hagar disclosed that he attempted to reach out to Alex Van Halen without success. Expressing frustration, Hagar revealed, “It’s the same old story. It’s the same old story. Alex won’t respond to me. I reach out to him. I haven’t done it in a long time now, because it’s, like, ‘Hey, you wanna talk to me? Call me.'”

According to Hagar, a Van Halen reunion is not a possibility due to various factors. He emphasized that it’s too late for such an endeavor, pointing out the commendable job Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang “Wolfie” Van Halen, is doing with his own musical career. Hagar suggested Wolfie as the ideal candidate to play at a tribute concert.

Hagar also addressed the potential collaboration with David Lee Roth, stating, “Dave and I are still alive, but there’s no way he would cooperate with me, so if he goes out by himself, that’s not a Van Halen reunion, that’s half a Van Halen reunion. If I go out by myself without him, it’s a half a Van Halen reunion.”

However, Hagar expressed openness to playing with other former band members. He specifically mentioned his desire to collaborate with Alex Van Halen, expressing interest in writing a song and jamming together in the studio. Despite this, he adamantly rejected the notion of a Van Halen reunion without Eddie Van Halen, asserting, “No, there’s no such thing.”

The interview provides a clear stance from Sammy Hagar on the current status of any potential Van Halen reunion, emphasizing the challenges and differences among the surviving members. Watch the full interview for more insights into Hagar’s perspective on the matter.
