In a surprising turn of events, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has revealed that she is taking a step back from the music industry to focus on her passion for design and creative direction. The “Fancy” rapper made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday, explaining her decision to halt work on her upcoming album.
Azalea expressed her heartfelt sentiments in a lengthy post, stating, “In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about songwriting.” She elaborated on her commitment to the visual aspects of her work, emphasizing her confidence in that realm.
The 33-year-old artist disclosed that her fourth album, which had been in progress, is now on hold. She clarified that the hiatus is due to her engagement in another project where her focus lies. Iggy Azalea emphasized her desire to align with what brings her the most happiness and passion in her day-to-day life.
In addressing concerns about her decision, Azalea acknowledged her initial resistance to a career shift, expressing her determination not to be seen as someone who quits or to perpetuate the notion that she was “bullied away from music.”
In her concluding remarks, Iggy Azalea apologized to her fans who may feel disappointed, stating, “I know for some fans this probably makes you feel a little deflated – I’m sorry to let you down. But, it’s more important I don’t let myself down. I hope you’ll understand.”
Despite the hiatus from music, Iggy Azalea assured her followers that she would soon unveil some of the creative projects she has been diligently working on.
