Renowned British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to release her 2001 hit, “Murder on the Dancefloor,” on vinyl for the first time, capitalizing on the song’s recent surge in popularity after it featured in the comedy/thriller film Saltburn, released in November. Currently holding the impressive position of number two on the U.K. singles chart, the track’s unexpected resurgence has prompted the artist to unveil it in a limited edition red 7-inch vinyl and a limited edition red CD single.
In a recent interview with BBC News, the 44-year-old hitmaker expressed her astonishment and delight at the unexpected revival of the pop-disco anthem. “It actually feels really magical. And if I’m honest, I don’t think I’ve completely processed it really,” she shared. “It’s extraordinary. It’s a song I’ve been singing for over 20 years, and I still love singing it.”
Ellis-Bextor went on to convey her appreciation for the song finding new audiences and creating fresh memories for listeners. “But for new people to be discovering it, for it to be making new memories with people is kind of beautiful,” she added.
Originally featured on her debut album, “Read My Lips,” the track initially secured the number two spot on the U.K. singles chart in 2001. Now, with its resurgence, “Murder on the Dancefloor” has not only reclaimed a prominent position on the U.K. charts but has also entered the Billboard 100 for the first time.
Fans can look forward to the limited edition red 7-inch vinyl and CD single, scheduled for release on February 16, marking a nostalgic yet contemporary celebration of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s enduring musical legacy.
