In a groundbreaking achievement, Raye, the 26-year-old music sensation, has shattered the record for the most BRIT Awards nominations in a single year, as officially declared by BRIT officials on Wednesday.
The acclaimed “Escapism” hitmaker secured an impressive seven nominations, solidifying her place as the most-nominated artist in a single BRIT Awards season. Among her notable nominations are categories like British Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, British Song of the Year, and Best Pop Act.
Raye’s remarkable feat surpasses the previous record jointly held by Gorillaz, Craig David, and Robbie Williams, each of whom had received six nominations in a single year.
Expressing her reactions in an interview during the nominations broadcast, Raye, whose real name is Rachel Keen, revealed feeling “completely floored” by the honor. She added, “I am currently a mess of overwhelming emotions and confusion.”
The Rising Star award, announced last month, was bestowed upon the all-female indie rock band, The Last Dinner Party.
Further contributing to the anticipation of the event, it was revealed that Dua Lipa, herself a nominee in multiple categories, including British Artist of the Year, is set to deliver a performance at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Mark your calendars, as the 2024 BRIT Awards are scheduled to be broadcast live on ITV from London’s O2 Arena on March 2nd.
