In a notable addition to the Boardmasters Festival 2024 lineup, the talented 29-year-old singer Sam Fender is set to take center stage as a headliner. The ‘Dead Boys’ artist, who stirred headlines in 2022 by canceling concerts to prioritize his mental health, joins an impressive roster of performers for the five-day Cornwall event.
Festival organizers revealed Fender’s participation after keen-eyed observers spotted his lyrics projected on the cliffs of Newquay, Cornwall. Having made his Boardmasters debut a decade ago, the singer has become a seasoned performer at the event.
The announcement positions Sam Fender alongside other headliners including Stormzy, Chase and Status (Live), Becky Hill, Bicep, Nia Archives, Tom Odell, Andy C, and Eliza Rose. Reflecting on Fender’s involvement, festival organizers remarked, “You guessed it… Sam Fender is coming to Boardmasters, this time securing headliner status exactly 10 years on from his Boardies debut in 2014 where he played The View stage.”
The singer’s journey with Boardmasters includes his debut in 2014, a performance on the Land of Saints stage in 2018 that drew one of the biggest crowds of the weekend, and now, a headline spot in 2024 following the success of his latest album ‘Seventeen Going Under.’
Scheduled across two scenic sites – Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach – Boardmasters Festival is slated to run from August 7 to 11. Sam Fender, in a candid revelation two years ago, cited “burn out” from touring as the reason for canceling several gigs. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health and acknowledged the concern of friends and colleagues.
Fender’s noteworthy career milestones include a captivating Glastonbury Pyramid Stage performance and the prestigious Ivor Novello award for Best Song, earned for the title track from his acclaimed album ‘Seventeen Going Under.’
