In a recent conversation with People magazine, Alicia Keys, known for hits like “Girl on Fire,” highlighted the importance of communication within her family.
“We’re big on conversations. We’re big on communication,” shared the 43-year-old singer-songwriter. “There’s definitely parameters for things, but we have to give them the ability to let them explore and let them figure out what they like.”
Alicia, who shares two children, Egypt and Genesis, with her husband and producer Swizz Beatz, stressed the significance of allowing her children to express themselves. “I ask them, ‘What do you think? What do you want? What feels right for you?’ Because I think being in touch with your spirit and your intuition is a big key to life.”
Swizz Beatz, aged 45, has three children from previous relationships – Prince Nasir, Kasseem Jr, and Nicole.
Alicia continued, “If you don’t know what you think or what you feel, it’s going to be hard for you. I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time not fully understanding or not trusting what I felt, and so I want to teach them to trust their instincts.”
Describing her children as “really smart,” Alicia expressed pride in their independence and growth. “We’re doing really good, and they’re really smart. They’re really independent,” she shared, reflecting on the joy of watching her sons mature.
