Presented by IFPI, the organization representing the recorded music industry worldwide, this accolade is bestowed upon the artist whose album ranks #1 in the IFPI Global Album Chart, a reflection of the album’s worldwide sales across streaming, download, and physical music formats throughout the calendar year.
K-Pop sensation SEVENTEEN clinched the top spot on the 2023 Chart with their album “FML,” marking their inaugural IFPI Global Charts Award win. Released in April 2023, “FML” shattered records as the most pre-ordered album in K-Pop history. Its debut at #1 in South Korea, coupled with reaching #1 in Japan and achieving Top 5 status in France and the US, underscored SEVENTEEN’s global appeal. Furthermore, the group’s follow-up album, “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,” released in October, made a notable impact by securing the #8 position in the IFPI Global Album Chart.
South Korean acts dominated the IFPI Global Album Chart, with five of the Top 10 albums, marking the strongest showing for K-Pop in Global Charts history. Notable mentions include Stray Kids, whose albums “5-STAR” (#2) and “ROCK-STAR” (#9) both entered the Top 10.
