Pop icons Kylie Minogue, 55, and Madonna, 65, surprised fans with an impromptu performance at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, last week. The duo delighted the audience by delivering renditions of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and Kylie’s own noughties hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” during Madonna’s ‘Celebration Tour.’
Revealing the behind-the-scenes story, Kylie shared that Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, reached out just weeks before the event to propose the collaboration. Speaking to Variety at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party on Sunday, Kylie teased the possibility of a future song collaboration with Madonna, stating, “Maybe. Who knows? Let’s see.”
This isn’t the first time the idea of a musical collaboration between the two pop divas has been raised. During an interview with New York’s 1035KTU radio station, Kylie expressed her enthusiasm for the prospect, saying, “I would. Of course, I would! She’s going on tour. I don’t have Madonna’s number but if I was in town and she was in town it would be amazing. The building would probably fall down. We’d need to send our warnings!”
Madonna, reflecting on their joint performance and their enduring presence in the music industry, remarked onstage, “Now, this is what we call survival. It’s a privilege for me to be up here singing with you… God bless you, never give up.”
The long-awaited collaboration had been on both artists’ wish lists for some time. Kylie, clad in a top adorned with Madonna’s name, shared her excitement about the performance on social media, posting a clip of herself in the audience with the caption, “Madonna It’s been a long time coming!!! Loved being with you!!!! Celebration Tour and it is now International Women’s Day …. Thank you and Love Love Love.”
