The highly anticipated Australian music festival Splendour in the Grass, slated to feature headliners Kylie Minogue and Arcade Fire, has regrettably been cancelled for the 2024 edition. Promoters of the festival made the announcement on Wednesday, citing unexpected circumstances that led to the cancellation of the event scheduled to take place between 19 and 21 July at North Byron Parklands.
In a statement shared on social media, the promoters expressed their understanding of the excitement surrounding this year’s line-up and the anticipation of fans and artists alike. However, due to unforeseen events, they conveyed their decision to take a hiatus for the year. They assured ticket holders that refunds would be processed automatically by Moshtix and expressed gratitude for the understanding and support of the festival’s community.
Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco, co-CEOs of Secret Sounds and founders of Splendour, conveyed their deep disappointment at the cancellation, especially considering the festival’s uninterrupted run since its inception in 2001. In a joint statement, they shared their heartfelt sentiments, acknowledging the festival’s longstanding tradition as a collaborative effort within the community and expressing hope for a return in the future.
The announcement came just a week after tickets for the three-day camping event went on sale, adding to the disappointment of fans who were eagerly anticipating performances by artists such as Future, Turnstile, G Flip, The Last Dinner Party, Fontaines D.C., and many others. The cancellation serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of event planning and the challenges faced by the music industry amid changing circumstances.
