Glasgow’s renowned music venue, The Barrowland Ballroom, has bestowed the honor of induction into its esteemed Hall Of Fame upon Johnny Marr.
Among the luminaries previously inducted into the Barrowland Hall Of Fame are iconic figures such as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Simple Minds, and many others.
The prestigious award was presented to Johnny Marr just before his ninth performance at The Barrowland Ballroom. This event was part of his ongoing UK headline tour, The Spirit Power Tour, which has garnered enthusiastic praise from critics. The Scottish Sun hailed the performance as “nothing short of iconic,” while The Herald described it as leaving Marr “on top of the world.”
Expressing gratitude for the honor, Johnny Marr stated, “Thank you to the legendary Glasgow Barrowlands for inducting me into their Hall Of Fame. I remember arriving in the dressing room in 1985, and since then I’ve had the honor of playing there so many times in many different bands.”
Johnny Marr’s association with The Barrowland Ballroom dates back to 1985 when he first performed there with The Smiths, followed by another appearance with the group in 1986. He returned to the venue with various bands, including Simple Minds in 1987, The The in 1989, Electronic in 1991, as a special guest with Oasis in 2001, as a member of The Cribs in 2008, with his solo band in 2018, and most recently on April 3rd as part of The Spirit Power Tour.
The Spirit Power Tour continues across the UK with upcoming performances in cities like Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, Bristol, London, Brighton, and Nottingham. Fans can find the last remaining tickets for these shows on the tour’s official website.
