Ringo Starr, the iconic former drummer of The Beatles, has revealed details about his upcoming EP titled ‘Crooked Boy,’ starting with the release of its lead single ‘February Sky.’ This new track, written by renowned songwriter and producer Linda Perry, is set to debut on Friday, April 12, 2024.
The EP comprises four tracks, all penned by Linda Perry, whose impressive portfolio includes collaborations with artists like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pink, and Adele. Ringo, at 83 years old, lends his distinctive vocals and drumming to each song on the EP.
The collaboration between Ringo and Linda Perry extends back to their previous work on ‘Everyone and Everything’ from 2022’s ‘EP3’ and ‘Coming Undone’ from 2021’s ‘Change the World.’ Linda, 58, approached Ringo with the proposal of writing an entire EP for him, resulting in the creation of ‘Crooked Boy’ with tracks such as ‘Gonna Need Someone,’ ‘Adeline,’ and the titular song.
Expressing his excitement about the project, Ringo commented, “Linda made me a great EP – she produced it in her studio and then sent me the tracks and I added the drumming and my vocals. ‘February Sky’ is great – very moody – but since Linda wrote these specifically for me – it of course has to have a positive peace and love element.”
The EP’s lyrics reflect themes of resilience and optimism, as showcased in lines like, “Gonna stand up rise above the rain. Start a revolution in these brighter days. Found the missing pieces. That were vacant to the eye. Well, I had enough of February sky.”
‘Crooked Boy’ will be available on limited-edition marble vinyl for Record Store Day on April 20, 2024, with digital release following on April 26. Fans can also pre-order the black vinyl and CD editions, set to release on May 31.
In addition to his new music ventures, Ringo and his All Starr Band are embarking on a spring tour featuring 12 shows, with plans for further tour dates later in the year.
