Coachella is in hot water again, facing a hefty $28,000 (£22,524) fine after Lana Del Rey’s set exceeded the curfew by 13 minutes.
The songstress, known for hits like “Say Yes To Heaven” and “Summertime Sadness,” took to the stage at the Empire Polo Club on Friday (19.04.24) but was late once more, prompting the fine from the city of Indio, California, where the renowned music festival unfolds annually. A representative confirmed to TMZ that Coachella’s organizers are liable for the penalty.
This isn’t the first time Coachella has been hit with fines for late performances. Last year’s first weekend saw a staggering $117,000 (£94,121) fine due to delays from all three headliners.
Lana Del Rey’s penchant for tardiness isn’t news to fans. At Glastonbury, she kept the audience waiting for half an hour, attributing her lateness to getting her hair done. Ironically, her hairdresser joined her on stage to finish styling her locks during the performance.
During her Coachella set, Lana addressed her lateness, expressing apologies and acknowledging the risk of the power being cut due to the curfew. Despite the mic being cut mid-song, she engaged the audience in a sing-along of her hit “Video Games” and interacted with fans by taking photos and signing autographs.
The incident marks another chapter in Coachella’s history of navigating curfew constraints and artist timelines, showcasing the challenges of managing a major music festival.
