Jordan Knight, singer for New Kids On The Block, has confessed that he no longer listens to albums, despite the boy band’s recent release of a new record. The 53-year-old revealed he hasn’t purchased an album since Kanye West’s “808s and Heartbreak” in 2008, expressing a sense of nostalgia for the experience.
In an interview with Record Collector magazine, Knight shared, “Kanye’s ‘808s and Heartbreak’ in 2008 was the last album I bought. Sad to say, I don’t buy albums anymore, or listen to artists’ whole body of work. There’s something about it that I miss.”
The pop group, consisting of Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood, surprised their fans, known as Blockheads, by announcing their follow-up to 2013’s album “10,” which was released earlier this week.
Known for hits like “Step by Step,” New Kids On The Block inspired future boy bands such as Take That, Backstreet Boys, and NSYNC. Their latest record features a mix of pop anthems, dance tracks, love songs, and grooves. The album includes collaborations with DJ Jazzy Jeff on “Get Down” and 80s singer Taylor Dayne on “Old School Love.” The songs were penned by Wahlberg and McIntyre.
Wahlberg described the new album as their most mature yet, saying, “It’s the most mature album we’ve ever made. Yet it’s the most fun and most comfortable album we’ve ever made. This album, more than any other, is bringing the New Kids and the fans full circle. It’s about hope and possibilities and being ourselves.”
McIntyre added, “It says a lot about any band to make a record that has energy and passion and lightness and fun and depth – after almost 40 years together? It’s crazy.”
In addition to the new album, New Kids On The Block will embark on “The Magic Summer Tour,” a nod to their 1990 stadium tour, starting in June. They will be joined by special guests Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
